Learn About Us

Why Fabulosew?

We are a sewing pattern printing company, printing patterns on lightweight paper.  For more information on what we do see here – STEPP into lightweight paper with Fabulosew.

We created our business in 2020, largely due to the coronavirus pandemic when, at the start of lockdown, John was made redundant from a job he had only been in for a few months.  Unable to leave the house due to shielding, and with Heather due to start a new job in London, we took the decision to set up a pattern printing business.

The birthday dress!
I’ve a special birthday soon and a few parties to go to this summer , so thought I’d make a special dress!
It’s a @sewing.masin #sicilyslipdress made from a gorgeous buttery soft silk satin. I can’t remember where I got it.
This was a fairly straightforward make after the stress of cutting out. It might be the best thing I’ve ever made for myself!
Off for the first party now 🎉

John and the printers are having a break from Friday 11th - Saturday 18th July
Due to high order volumes, current turnaround times are around 7 days, so any orders placed after Friday 4th July will be sent out during the week commencing 21st July.
Urgent orders can be processed if you contact by email. Notes added to the order will not be seen until the order is opened and being processed.
What a stunning location for a sewing weekend! @crazy_little_homebird has organised this idyllic retreat in Gisborough and it’s everything I wanted. Apart from malfunctioning machines! I spent the entire day making this @megannielsenpatterns #cottesloeswimsuit after struggling with both my overlocker and then sewing machine for multiple hours. User error. I’ve been focusing on fitness this year and have had very little time to sew, so I’m really appreciating this uninterrupted sewing time. Hopefully the linen trousers for tomorrow will go more smoothly.
This make is one of my joint 3 favourites!

And the dress has become a tnt pattern for me as a quick but effective make for my daughters, and even a Diana dors inspired make for a character in our local panto (sadly no photos)
It’s the marvellous @tammy.handmade #leonadress and the fabric was from @tiaknightfabrics who have an amazing range of stretch crushed velvet for £2.50 per metre making this a truly budget make.
I was totally rubbish at taking photos at @londonfrocktails but had a fantastic time talking to fellow sewists and admiring some lovely makes. Thank you to everyone involved in organising the event, it was a triumph. And thank you @sew_shirty for the walk along the embankment, sorry it was such a long way back to Waterloo, hope you got home ok!
Here are my takeaways:
- I’m super inspired to make a @roberts.wood pattern having been in awe of the makes by @antigoni_makes @dourgirl and @raykey53
- there was a lot of green and I’m here for it
- Next time, I’ll hold pre drinks at my dads for those coming alone, it was less than a mile away and I was pretty anxious (unnecessarily) turning up alone
- I’m happy to skip the knitting and stitching show, I really don’t need anything and the frocktails event was much better for socialising
- I can’t even imagine the amount of work involved in putting on an event like this, so thank you again to the @londonfrocktails team

My dress is the @fabricgodmother #peonydress made with fabric from @sherwoodsfabrics. Thanks to everyone who complimented it, I was unsure of it but I’m pleased with it now.
I’ve been working away for a couple of days a week this year, so sewing time has been limited. I spent the last couple of weeks cutting this out and sewing a seam here and there. It’s the @closetcorepatterns #ClosetCoreMileEnd and I love the interesting seam lines and topstitching detail. It’s shorter than my usual style but I’m pleased with the finished top and also like the front detail.
Fabric is from the wonderful @bygraziela_fabrics which is a lovely quality.
I think it goes well with these Lululemon leggings which my daughter influenced me to buy when I was in Canada. I’d not have bought them if the new @tammy.handmade trouser pattern had been released by then as they are virtually identical in style.

Employee of the week!
Although usually it’s my face and makes that make their way onto the @fabulosew social media, the reality is that all the Fabulosew work is done by John as I have my own full time job. It is John who prints and folds every pattern by hand, answers all the emails and since Tamsin has started college, he cycles the days orders to the post office in the afternoon. Since the start of the year, he’s been printing 7 days a week.
This week, I’m taking some time out in the land of @blackbirdfabrics (sadly I didn’t manage to place an order to collect) and @lululemon visiting our daughter who is working there. So while I’m away, John is also walking the dogs and doing all the teen taxi and feeding too!
Instagram queries probably can’t be answered as I can’t see any order information.
Thank you all for giving John a busy start to 2024!

We are now away but still taking orders

We are going to be unavailable from 23d September – 30th September. All orders placed after 22nd September will not be sent until at least the 2nd October. This will also have a knock on effect on orders placed after we are back, as John will be printing all orders in turn and it is likely to take a week or so to catch up.

Our usual quick turnover will return in October, please bear with us until then.

We thank you for your patience and supporting Fabulosew, and happy sewing!
